First modification:
The Law Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines, known as the 'Omnibus Law', which fell during its parliamentary process in February, will be debated again on Monday, April 29 in the Chamber of Deputies, after receiving legislative endorsement for discussion. The project, notably reduced compared to the original, includes almost 280 articles, with which President Javier Milei intends to reform the country's entire economy, through privatization of public companies and labor reforms.
The Law Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines, popularly known as the 'Omnibus Law', will have a second chance in the Argentine Congress, after the opinion was approved, which enables its treatment in the Chamber of Deputies.
The debate will be on Monday, April 29 and for the Government of Javier Milei this time it will be “a reality.”
This project failed in its parliamentary process in February. Originally, it was made up of 664 articles plus some annexes, but due to the general rejection in the Deputies and the countless modifications, Milei had given the order that it return to committees.
“Conceptually, the 'Bases Law' is going to be a reality and the modifications are part of taking steps forward. Little by little, it was understood that it was a law for the people. Whatever is outside the law, we will continue to seek consensus to Argentina,” said the presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, during his press conference this Friday, April 26, at the Casa Rosada.
The Government led by the far-right Milei is confident that this time it will get between 135 and 140 votes to approve it in the Deputies and thus be able to refer it to the Senate. In the Lower House there is resistance to some of the 279 articles that this new version of the law has.
