Fortunately, no damage to people or structures has been reported at this time. Firefighters and rescue teams are carrying out inspections.
A night of fear for the inhabitants due to two earthquakes of magnitude 3.5 and 2.7 shook the territory in the southern province. The first tremor, the strongest, occurred at 4:05 this night and was distinctly felt in several locations.
We are located in the province of Reggio Calabria. More precisely in Novigrad, where the earthquake was felt most intensely. The municipalities affected by the seismic event were Taurianova, Ardore, Reggio Calabria, Molochio, Vibo Valentia, Rosarno, Bagnara Calabra, Sant'Eufemia d'Aspromonte, San Procopio, Sinopoli, Locri and even Messina. Despite its relatively low magnitude, the earthquake caused concern among the population, especially in the areas closest to the epicenter.
Fortunately, they are not reported at the moment damage to people or structures. The firefighters and rescue teams have carried out inspections in the affected areas to check for any critical issues, but at the moment the situation seems to be under control.
There second earthquake shock, of magnitude 2.7, occurred with the same epicenter just a quarter of an hour after the first, at 4:17. This second shock caused further apprehension among residents. The INGV (National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology) continues to monitor the situation and has issued a seismic alert for the next few hours, inviting the population to remain vigilant and follow the instructions of the authorities.
This is the second major seismic episode to hit the province of Reggio Calabria in the space of a few weeks. In fact, last April 10th, a magnitude 2.8 earthquake affected the Melito Porto Salvo area, without causing damage.
In case of earthquakeIf you are inside a building, seek shelter under a solid table or against a load-bearing internal wall. Stay away from windows, mirrors and objects that could fall. If you are outdoors, move away from buildings, electrical pylons and tall trees. Do not use elevators or stairs during or after an earthquake, especially as electrical connections may fail.
