Dwarf Fortress it is an absolute masterpiece that has inspired titles such as Minecraft or RimWorld. For years it was completely free (it still is, in fact), with the two sole developers, Tarn and Zach Adams, living off direct community support. With the launch on Steam, however, things changed and Dwarf Fortress managed to sell well 800,000 copies, making the two millionaires, as announced in the latest update. Considering that in March last year the copies sold were 500,000, in the meantime it has accumulated another 300,000 sales.
The Adams also revealed that it had been added to more than a million wishlists. Therefore it is conceivable that sales will remain at good levels in the coming months and that exceeding the million copies sold is not a chimera, for what we can consider one of the best video games ever, as well as one of the most profound in an absolute sense, as underlined in our review.
How to reward yourself?
The Adams, however, remain humble as always and to celebrate the sales of the game, if they exceed one million, they will simply have a little party or a trip to an exotic place. After all, their passion is and has always been to make Dwarf Fortress evolve to unimaginable levels, making it increasingly vast and complex. In fact, technically it is still in the alpha phase, so there is still a long way to go.
