Ayrton Senna is in the hearts of most motorsport fans and 30 years after the Brazilian champion’s death following the injuries sustained in the Tamburello accident during the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola, Ducati dedicated a special version of one of its cars to him. most iconic motorcycles: the Monster.
Today the Borgo Panigale company presented the special edition of the motorcycle called Monster Senna in Imola. The entire management of the Bolognese company was present at the event, with Claudio Domenicali, president and CEO of Ducati; Gigi Dall’Igna, director of Ducati Corse; Davide Tardozzi, Ducati Corse MotoGP team manager; Mauro Grassilli, sporting director of Ducati Corse and the two official riders, the 2-time reigning world champion Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini.

The bike features a splendid yellow-based livery, with green and blue inserts that clearly recall the colors of the helmet used for most of Senna’s motorsport career.
The two bands, the green one and the blue one, are placed on the tank, but also on the black rims and in the small support of the windshield above the large central headlight. The saddle is characteristic, which is blue. The front brake caliper made by Brembo also stands out, it is also yellow, as is the rear tail.
The motorbike will be made in a limited edition: 341 units, all numbered and recognizable by a plate. The number 341 was designed by Ducati by combining the 3 world titles won by Senna in Formula 1 and the 41 grand prix won in the top open-wheel series of motorsport.

The Monster Senna does not limit itself to offering a celebratory livery in honor of Ayrton, but also winks at competitions, resulting in more performance than the standard ones thanks to a weight reduced by 4 kilos. Not only that, because there is also the use of the suspension made by Ohlins which is just over half a kilogram lighter than that supplied with the other types of Monster. Always thinking about slimming down the vehicle, Ducati has chosen to use aluminum rims which are almost 2 kilograms lighter.
The bike was also created to celebrate Senna’s partnership with Ducati. Ayrton, in fact, was one of the first owners of a Monster 900 equipped with a red fairing and black seat, which came to him in 1993.

The union that brought Senna and the then president of Ducati, Claudio Castiglioni, should not be forgotten. This led first to a solid friendship, then to the creation of the Ducati 916 Senna (Ayrton’s is on display at the MAUTO in Turin in the exhibition inaugurated last April 23rd in honor of Senna).
Ayrton signed the contract that would give rise to the first motorcycle ever made with his name, the Ducati 916 Senna, and he did so in March 1994, just over a month before his death. It was he who chose the color scheme of the bike, with anthracite gray as the background, then matte black on the lower part of the fairing and the bright red of the “S”, the Senna logo.
Senna’s death put the project on hold, but it was completed in December 1994 and 300 examples were produced, all sold out in a few days. The motorbike was then produced in 2 other series between 1997 and 1998, always in 300 units.
