In the course of 2021, the Covid pandemic continued and in order to ‘make us not miss anything’ in terms of crisis, there was also a global shortage of semiconductors which had an enormous impact on various product sectors. Even the motorcycle industry had to face a certain difficulty in finding the so-called chips, but judging by the results of the Ducati brand we can obviously hope for a market able to get out of the tunnel.
The Borgo Panigale house led the delivery volumes for the first nine months of 2021 to exceed those of the entire 2020, thus demonstrating that Covid has not reduced interest in the field of two wheels. With 49,693 motorcycles delivered to enthusiasts around the world since the beginning of the year, Ducati surpassed last year’s 48,042 units, with a third quarter of 2021 turning out to be the best in history. The growth was + 3% over the same period of 2020 and + 25% compared to 2019.
At the end of September, the first market for motorcycles delivered remained the Italian one (7,954), followed by the United States (7,475) and Germany (5,627). The difference between Italy and the United States is extremely narrow, which is why it is assumed that a Ducati is still intent on marching on an area, the American one, which still has potential for improvement. During the year, all the product families of the Bolognese motorcycle manufacturer recorded growth; but the bikes most appreciated by Ducati fans remain there Multistrada V4, which remains in first place since the beginning of the year, followed by Scrambler 800, Streetfighter V4 and Monster.
Francesco Milicia, VP Global Sales and After Sales Ducati, said: “Ducati closed the first nine months of the year with sales volumes that are already higher than the whole of 2020, both in terms of motorcycles and after sales products, i.e. clothing, accessories and spare parts. The growth we are recording is widespread on all the main markets in which Ducati is present and extends across the product families. We are very satisfied with the results obtained: the Ducatisti community is growing all over the world. The brand is now more solid and appreciated than ever and we are already focused on next year“.
