He said: The strategy for commercial transport and land logistics was developed, in cooperation with strategic partners, private sector companies, distributors and retail companies in the field of commercial transport, and its preparation took into account the application of international best practices and increasing the competitiveness of the commercial transport sector compared to developed countries in this field, to achieve three goals. The main ones are: cost effectiveness by measuring the total cost per kilometre, adopting modern technology in infrastructure and the average age of the fleet, and achieving security and safety by reducing annual accident deaths in the sector, indicating that the new strategy contributes to achieving the authority’s strategic goals by eliminating Barriers to doing business, simplifying regulations and requirements, modernizing the fleet to zero-emission vehicles, improving drivers’ behaviors and vehicle performance, by increasing the efficiency and safety of the sector’s operational processes, supporting small and medium-sized companies in the business market, making affordable technologies available to the sector, and raising the sector’s preparations to adopt technologies. The commercial transportation activities sector is witnessing continuous economic growth, especially with the acceleration of growth in e-commerce in the past two years, as Dubai is a major logistical center for shipping and distribution in the region. To adopt innovative methods and future technologies, and the list of projects planned to be implemented in the next phase includes developing electronic platforms that support the commercial and logistical transport sector, value-added permits, no-objection certificates, a platform for heavy freight services, providing technologies for monitoring driver behavior, and an after-sales market platform. A construction equipment rental platform, a ground freight data center, and updates to the heavy and light truck fleet.
Among the projects identified by the strategy are the application of “tachograph” technology for heavy trucks, the provision of self-driving vehicles and towing trucks, the Forum for Commercial Transport and Logistics Services, membership in relevant international federations, and the creation of the National Committee for Small Vehicles.
