The Research and Development Center of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, through the “Al-Baheth” program, hosted 95 trainee students from 20 different nationalities from 23 local and international universities, to develop their knowledge and expertise and qualify them to enter the labor market, thus enhancing the center’s role in advancing energy and water research and facing future challenges. Since the launch of the researcher program, the center has attracted 15 trainees, including 5 from national competencies, to join the authority’s work team.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said that the Research and Development Center at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has established itself as a leading center for solar energy technologies that contribute to the development of the clean and renewable energy sector worldwide by enriching the scientific community with research. He pointed out that the center’s recruitment of the best researchers and academics of different nationalities contributes to exchanging the best local and international experiences and practices and strengthening the partnership between the government sector and the academic sector to transform Dubai into the first destination for scientists and researchers in the field of renewable and clean energy.
Engineer Walid bin Salman, Executive Vice President of the Business Development and Excellence Sector at the authority, said that the researcher works to stimulate and enhance the culture of research and development, develop professional competencies, and attract Emirati graduates and national competencies to work in the center.
The “Researcher” includes four categories: training, funding for graduation projects, visiting researchers, and seminars and workshops. The program aims to involve employees and academic institutions in research and development efforts. Under the umbrella of the program and in cooperation with a group of international experts and the center’s experts, the center held during the past year 30 technical sessions that dealt with many topics, most notably solar cells, machine learning, deep learning algorithms, robotics, digital manufacturing, additive manufacturing, blockchain and 3D printing. He also organized 5 virtual seminars on smart grids for energy distribution, satellite life cycle, complex big data chain analytics, and solar energy information sources. He pointed out that the program held 5 workshops on the role of dynamic polishing technology in sustainable buildings, an introduction to the world of robotics and robotic operating systems, photovoltaic solar panels in the United Arab Emirates, characteristics of raw materials and battery design, and a smart introduction to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
