Capcom has recently published its financial results and, without too much surprise, the numbers are more than positive. The Japanese publisher’s video games are selling and the recent Dragon’s Dogma 2 reports valid results. More precisely, so good that Capcom considers Dragon’s Dogma as one of its “key brands“. The saga is thus positioned alongside historical names such as Monster Hunter, Resident Evil and Street Fighter.
Obviously this is only a few lines within a document and does not mean that Dragon’s Dogma will necessarily receive sequels and spin-offs galore over the years as happens with the games mentioned above, but in any case considering that it is only the second chapter of a saga that had been on pause for a long time (the first chapter dates back to 2012, remember) it is an important recognition.
The first chapter wasn’t a failure, but it didn’t immediately achieve huge sales numbers. The release of the Dark Arise expansion, Capcom’s continued discounts and word of mouth over time they have made it a favorite of fans of the genre and they made sure that it always remained at the center of Capcom’s thoughts, which now has no problem saying kind words for the saga.
The exact data of Dragon’s Dogma 2
Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold 2.6 million units since March 22, a figure that has not risen much compared to the 2.5 million at the beginning of April. The game is not accumulating other sales for now, but this is normal given that new players will probably arrive with more significant price drops or with the introduction of new content, via update or via a new edition of the game.
The 2.6 million still allow Dragon’s Dogma 2 to be a “key brands” as said and now there is nothing left to do but wait and see what Capcom wants to do with the saga. Let’s hope it doesn’t take another 12 years.
