The hour record does not move. Alex Dowsett could not beat the mark that Victor Campenaerts set in April 2019 (55,089 km) in the attempt that the Israeli cyclist carried out in the same place that the Belgian did, in the Bicentennial Velodrome of Aguascalientes, in Mexico, at almost 2,000 meters of altitude and with optimal conditions for the challenge. The Scottish cyclist, who already held this classic cycling world record in 2015 (52,937), did not reach his goal by staying at 54.555, the second best distance (a little better than Wiggins’, 54.526), although 34 seconds behind the current record.
On the back of Factor Hanzo and with a 61 chainring and a 13 pinion, Dowsett started slower than the Campenaerts reference, but after eight minutes and with about 7 km traveled, he was placed under the Belgian runner’s mark by almost Half a second. It was the only moment when the challenge loomed. However, little by little it was losing steam. A minute later he left a few tenths that became two seconds after 15 minutes of testing.
He arrived at the equator with four seconds lost, but in that agonizing effort he ended up sunk and the references were getting worse in the second half of this challenge that had its beneficial side: raised funds to help those affected by hemophilia, a disease he suffers.
