The new portable console from Valve, Steam Deckhas officially arrived, but Nintendo has intervened promptly for block videos showing emulators of his games.
Valve hopes Steam Deck will be successful not only in the world of handheld video games, but also in the way people they approach to games, even those that until now have only been usable from a PC, since doing it on the go is a good news. However, entering the handheld gaming market is an extremely difficult and courageous thing to do at a time like this.
The reason is the undisputed dominion of Nintendo Switch in the field. Nintendo, famous for over 30 years for its portable platforms, is not easy to match. Switch has sold over 103 million copies around the world, and challenging the spearhead in the world of video games in portable mode is a tough challenge.
Nintendo may, however, also be intimidated by Steam Deck. Valve’s console could lead to a drop in Nintendo Switch sales, but the reason is not related to the platform per se. The cause of the fear of the Japanese company is due to the fact that several users have started create emulators on Steam Deckthanks to which you can play the titles now on the Nintendo Switch.
Starting on the attack to defend their “creatures”, Nintendo promptly provided for the removal, for copyright infringementof the video of Phawx on YouTube, which explained to viewers how much Steam Deck allows for excellent emulation of Nintendo Switch titles.
With this move, Nintendo wants to prevent people from buying Valve’s console to use it as an emulator of its titles, without obviously having permission to do so. Just last month, Gary Bowser was convicted of hacking Switch consoles. The work on the case was done by the FBI, which identified the culprit.
Using the Steam Deck to emulate the Nintendo Switch is nearly impossible to trace. Phawx was only discovered because he has shared a video to explain to others how to do it. All Nintendo can do, for the moment, is to eliminate all of them as quickly as possible video tutorial of users who want to explain how to turn Steam Deck into an emulator, in order to reduce as much as possible the number of players who will attempt the feat.
Recall that Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck already have one thing in common: Valve’s console has, in fact, presented a drift problem on the right stick, in all respects similar to the problem that involved the Joy-Con of the hybrid platform from Nintendo in the first months of its release.
Also, Steam Deck owners need to watch out for Destiny 2as launching it on the portable platform may lead to the ban.
