Region has suffered from storms for 16 days; 129 people died
On Tuesday (June 7, 2022), Pernambuco’s Civil Defense Executive Secretariat raised the number of people displaced in the state due to the rains to 119,523. The number of homeless rose to 9,134.
According to the State Civil Defense, 5 more landslides were recorded: 2 in the municipality of Quipapá, 1 in Jaqueira, 1 in Tamandaré and 1 in Recife. In Tamandaré, 5 people were hit and 3 were hospitalized. In Recife, there were 4 victims in the landslide. One of them, a 13-year-old teenager, died. In all, the rains in the state caused 129 deaths.
According to Compesa (Companhia Pernambucana de Abastecimento), 6 dams continue to operate at full capacity in the state: Várzea do Una (São Lourenço da Mata), Duas Unas (Jaboatão dos Guararapes), Pirapama (Cabo de Santo Agostinho), Sicupema ( Cabo de Santo Agostinho), Utinga (Ipojuca) and Bita (Ipojuca).
As a result of the rains that continue to affect the regions of Mata, Agreste and Metropolitana do Recife, the DER (Department of Highways) continues to monitor the highways.
