Direct aid for cinemas, bookstores and cultural entities that have had to close their doors

Sánchez explained that the measures, which aim to provide an immediate response to the catastrophe and rebuild the affected areas, are approved as a matter of urgency and, therefore, will come into force as soon as they are published in the Official State Gazette ( BOE).

Within the package of measures presented today, several chapters dedicated to culture are included. Specifically, from chapters 71 to 74 including both.

Extension of aid deadlines for films

There will be an extension of deadlines for films that benefit from aid in the period 2022-2024 and are affected by DANA. Thus, the deadlines to comply with the obligations for films that benefit from general and selective aid for feature films are extended, according to a series of conditions, and if it is impossible to comply with the deadlines, the production companies may justify it to adjust the return of the aid.

Subsidies to movie theaters

Direct subsidies will be provided for film exhibition halls in locations affected by DANA. The purpose of the aid is to finance operating expenses and reactivation of the activity of movie theaters, between November 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025. The maximum amount of these subsidies will be 300,000 euros, financed by the budget of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA). The amount of aid per number of screens will be:

– 12,000 euros: rooms with a screen.

– 25,000 euros: rooms with 2 to 8 screens.

– 35,000 euros: rooms with 9 to 13 screens.

– 59,000 euros: rooms with 14 or more screens.

Subsidies for bookstores

Direct aid is granted to independent bookstores located in localities affected by DANA that prove material damage. The purpose of the aid is to cover operating expenses, replenishment of funds and reactivation of the bookstores between October 28, 2024 and December 31, 2025, according to what is established in the call. The maximum endowment will be 300,000 euros, financed by the budget of the Ministry of Culture. The maximum amount of each aid will be 30,000 euros. These aids are compatible with others intended for the same purpose.

Subsidies to cultural entities

Aid is granted to diagnose the damage caused by DANA, offer technical advice and support the reconstruction of the cultural sector. The beneficiary entities and their amounts are the Fundació pel Llibre i la Lectura with 50,000 euros, the Associació Artistes Visuals de València, Alacant i Castelló with another 50,000 euros and the Association of Professionals of Il·lustració Valenciana with 50,000 euros.
