Digital Eclipsea software house specializing in the creation of documentary compilations such as Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection and Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story, as well as monographic projects such as The Making of Karateka and the remake of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, is open to collaborating with Nintendo, although there is nothing in the works for now.
Nothing is excluded
The one who expressed what we can consider a real wish was Chris Kohler, the founder of the studioin an interview with VGC, where when asked “Speaking of white gloves, is Nintendo not interested in collaborating with you?” he explained: “As you know, historically Other Ocean (the former owner of Digital Eclipse) made the 3DS version of Minecraft for Nintendo and we’ve done things with Nintendo in the past. I don’t think the door is closed, so you know, we’ll see what happens in the future. There’s definitely nothing in development right now.”
The idea would be to curate a Mario house collection or something similar, although Digital Eclipse knows that Nintendo has a very specific vision for its past gameswhich it is using in particular to enrich the Nintendo Switch Online subscription offering.
VGC also asked if Digital Eclipse would be interested in collaborate with Nightdive Studiosa team that as you know specializes in remastered editions. Apparently, however, there is some distance between the two teams:
“They’re doing a little bit more recent games, whereas we’re essentially integrating emulation-based solutions into our engine… I love you Nintendo, but – as the Nintendo Switch gets older, it’s getting harder and harder to emulate newer platforms and get them to work well on the Switch. So, there’s a bit of a gap in terms of what we’re doing.”
