‘Andor’, the new Disney series based on the universe of starwarsrepresents the beginning of the Rebellion that appears in the films of the saga, but focuses less on the basic elements of the franchise like the force or the Skywalkers and more on how the fight against the empire began.
“It will be special for the public because it is different. It’s the strongest ‘Star Wars’ you’ll ever see. This series is about normal people, and I like that a lot”, said its protagonist, Mexican actor Diego Luna to the Daily News.
‘Andor’, which will premiere its first three episodes tomorrow Wednesday through Disney +, is set a few years before the events of the 2016 film Rogue One, which introduced Cassian Andor (played by Luna) as a cunning rebel spy who He risks his life to steal the empire’s planes and obtain a superweapon from the Death Star.
The new series, which splits 24 episodes into two seasons, shows that Cassian was a very different person early in his life. “It’s quite interesting to approach a story backwards. We know the end; therefore, we are going to challenge every idea you have about Cassian and his background,” says Diego Luna.
Born in Rogue One
“There are some references in Rogue One about his past. He talks about being a part of a fight since he was 6 years old. He talks about a very dark past where he has done terrible things for the Rebellion, but you don’t get to know exactly what he is talking about. Now, we are going to go through that, “adds the actor.
Rogue One, which grossed over a billion dollars worldwide, was the first standalone Star Wars film not to be part of a larger trilogy, and despite that, it was arguably one of the best worked stories of all time. the franchise.
Certainly, Diego Luna never expected to play Cassian again, but he was eager to reprise the role, as he was happy with Rogue One.”
“When I saw it, I was very satisfied with the result. I was proud and ready to move on and go back to my life and do other things, and then a year later I got a phone call that said: ‘Would you be open to exploring the possibility of going back into character and telling Cassian’s backstory? I was very happy to be able to explore the journey…”
‘Andor’ is the fourth Star Wars action series, after ‘The Mandalorian’, ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ and ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’. “We are supposed to tell stories in which audiences can meet, reflect and feel represented. We have to be a mirror of something that is already happening, very interesting, out there”, says Luna.
“The world in which we live is the one that is due to diversity, due to that richness that the mixture of accents and cultures is giving us. I’m glad to be a part of this.”
Created by Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy, ‘Andor’ will release a new episode every Wednesday and also stars Stellan Skarsgård and Adria Arjona.
“It’s quite unfair to call him ‘Andor’ because it’s not just about him. It’s about a community and it’s about a lot of other characters. This is the beginning of a revolution and the awakening of a revolutionary, ”says Luna after warning that he himself will dub his voice for the Latin American version of Disney, like Adria Arjona.
