Berlin – the network and operations on the railways are to be separated more from one another. Competitors of Deutsche Bahn, the passenger association Pro Bahn and the train drivers’ union GDL have confirmed this demand. The railway subsidiaries for the track network, the train stations and the traction current network should be freed from their “compulsion to make a profit”, the associations announced on Monday.
“The state would finally take its direct responsibility for the rail network in hand and forego profits from the infrastructure,” said Pro-Bahn vice-chairman Lukas Iffländer. “Only in this way can the rail sector make its contribution to climate change.”
In the summer, the associations had already campaigned with the consumer advice centers and the construction industry for an independent, independent federal infrastructure company oriented towards the common good. In the coalition negotiations with the SPD, the FDP and the Greens advocate splitting the railway. The SPD rejects this. In addition to Deutsche Bahn itself, the railway and transport company is also against the split.
“If the heart of the SPD is attached to it, it can even be implemented within the DB Group,” said Ludolf Kerkeling, head of the European Railways Network. (dpa)
