Manuela was putting the plate on the table to sit down to eat when someone called the bell last Saturday. “We come to see the floor, who are you?” They replied to the other side of the telephone. The nerves were attached to her: the call is the last chapter of the real estate drama of this 69 -year -old woman, who was not very difficult to find in the idealist portal the floor that her parents finished paying in 1976 and that she lost after endorsing her daughter, just before the great recession, but in which she had stayed after getting a social rent.
The announcement is clear: “illegally occupied. Investment opportunity: Housing without possession. Impossibility of interior visit ”. “What hurts me most is that they call me Okupa, because this floor paid my parents working as mules,” explains Manuela excited. Behind him, he has been struggling for years, their own and others, which configure a good part of the newspaper library against the right to decent and affordable housing.
In an inverse chronology, the announcement in idealist precedes, he tells, “the most bitter Christmas” of his life. “On December 12, those of Desokupa were presented at the door (Desokupalcarria, according to a card that slid under the door). They returned on 18 and 19, 24, 26, 31 and, last time, on January 6, ”he lists:“ They made an access control, they were planted at the door and told me that if it left, it did not return to enter ”.
Last Kings Day the National Police attended to his call and appeared at time at home. Since then, they have not returned. “They called me to tell me that they already believed me and that they did not want to throw me away, because I am Spanish, I am sick, but that I tried to reach an agreement with the property,” explains Manuela, who points out the racism of this type of organizations: ” A foreigner does not have the right to a roof?

The woman endorsed with 20% of the house to her daughter in 2002, but when the financial crisis prevented the young woman from continuing to pay, the BBVA stayed with the property. However, given its vulnerability situation, the financial entity agreed with women an income below the market. “The bank offered me a social rental of 50 euros, because I have a disability and I only charge a non -contributory pay,” he explains.
In 2017, he says, the property canceled the account in which the woman entered month by month, in a timely manner, that rent. “Before eating myself,” she says. He consulted with managing how he could continue paying the monthly payments, but the only response was, some time later, a demand for default, which culminated in an eviction order. The social shield had already been activated by the pandemic and, thanks to a vulnerability report, could accept the moratorium that prevents families of families in worse socio -economic situation.
Specifically, the moratorium, from which some 58,000 families have benefited, contemplates several cases of vulnerability, such as disability situations, disabling disease or low income. Manuela has a higher disability 65% and a severe agency. Walk supported by a cane and every day receives help from a social worker. In 2023 he was diagnosed with cancer, still in treatment and left him some sequel. The most visible is a scar that crosses his stomach. “I have all the strength of the world, but my legs fail, because I am with chemio,” he laments.
That same year, the bank got rid of the property and the property changed hands. This wording has contacted the current owner, Sialco 22 SL, a mercantile dedicated to real estate promotion and management but, at the close of these lines, has not received an answer.

“As he knows that he is welcomed to a regulation that, for the moment, prevents eviction, the new property has resorted to a deckupation company that began to make him mobbing Real estate, ”explains Manuela’s lawyer, Alejandra Jacint occur in the home itself.
This same week, a Madrid Court filed the complaint, without even opening proceedings, but Jacinto has appealed that decision. “We ask for the citation of the workers of Desokupalcarria identified by the National Police and that Manuela herself and the neighbors who have witnessed the threats will declare,” says the lawyer.
She, she says, is not afraid. “From here they will take me with my feet ahead, because I have not stolen anyone, they have stolen me,” he defends. Nor did he have it when they rose it to a riot van for trying to prevent them from taking a partner, or the tens of times that the body put to stop an eviction, or when he occupied one of Bankia’s headquarters in one of the actions of the platform of affected by the mortgage. “I wish I had the force I had then.”
