They rise to 412 cases of Dengue confirmed in Italy from 1 January to 10 September 2024, of which 410 associated with trips abroad and 2 natives. This is reported by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, in the latest bulletin of the national surveillance system on arbovirosis.
The two autochthonous cases were recorded in the provinces of Reggio Emilia and Brescia. Before the case reported yesterday by the ATS of Brescia, relating to a person resident in Ospitaletto who for work reasons had also visited Gussago and Monticelli (disinfestation activities were arranged in all 3 Municipalities), on 22 August the Azienda Usl Irccs of Reggio Emilia had in fact informed that “the first case of autochthonous Dengue was diagnosed in the Municipality of Albinea, in a person who had not returned from a trip abroad”. For both infected people “good health conditions” were reported.
The 412 cases of Dengue recorded in Italy this year (+88 compared to the 324 reported in the previous bulletin updated to August 5) were diagnosed in people with a median age of 40, a slight majority of whom were women (52%). Zero deaths, according to the report. The 3 most affected regions are Lombardy (78 imported cases plus 1 indigenous), Veneto (71 imported cases) and Lazio (68 imported cases), followed by Emilia Romagna (48 imported cases and 1 indigenous), Piedmont (38 imported cases) and Tuscany (34 imported cases). The imported cases come mainly from Brazil.
From January 1 to September 10, 6 confirmed cases of Zika virus were also reported (all associated with travel abroad, median age 49 years, 50% male and no deaths), 12 confirmed cases of Chikungunya (all associated with travel abroad, median age 49 years, 50% male and no deaths), 42 confirmed cases of neuro-invasive infection – Tbe (40 autochthonous cases and 2 associated with travel abroad, median age 54 years, 69% male and no deaths) and 64 confirmed cases of Toscana virus (all autochthonous, median age 53 years, 67% male and no deaths).
