Acre, Minas Gerais, Goiás and the Federal District join the city of Rio de Janeiro; Deaths from the disease in Brazil increase by 140% in one week
The explosion of dengue cases in several regions of the country caused at least 3 States –Acre, Minas Gerais and Goiás– and the Federal District to declare a public health emergency.
The decree of the State of Goiás was published on Friday (2.Feb.2024). Data from the Department of Health indicate that, this year, 22,275 cases of dengue fever and two deaths were recorded in the State, an increase of 58% compared to the same period in 2023. Minas Gerais published the public health emergency decree on January 27th. Until the 29th, 64,724 probable cases and 23,389 confirmations of the disease were registered, in addition to one confirmed death and 35 under investigation. Here's the full text of the decree (PDF – 2 MB).
The Federal District published its decree on the 25th. The most recent epidemiological bulletin indicates 29,492 probable cases of dengue in the first 4 weeks of the year, in addition to 6 deaths from the disease. Here's the full text of the decree (PDF – 18 MB).
The decree from the State of Acre was published at the beginning of the year, on the 5th. By mid-January, the State had recorded 2,532 notifications of dengue cases. The capital, Rio Branco, leads the number of cases. Here's the full text of the decree (PDF – 169 kB).
Rio de Janeiro
The city of Rio de Janeiro also declared a public health emergency due to dengue. The decree was published on Monday (Feb 5), amid 20,064 probable cases of the disease recorded until February 1.
Jump of deaths
The number of deaths caused by dengue in Brazil in 2024 reached 36 on Monday (5.Feb). It was an increase of 140% in less than 7 days, according to data from Ministry of Health. There were 15 registrations on Tuesday (January 30). Read more in this report.
