Demon slayer It is definitely one of the most popular anime today, with hundreds of thousands of fans around the world. The work of Koyoharu Gotouge It has received a lot of praise since it was released in 2020, but lately, it has also started to receive several criticisms for “excess of violence”.
It happens that a small group of people presented a series of complaints to the Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization (BPO), a non-governmental organization that is in charge of controlling the media in Japan, about Demon slayer and its violent content.
Specifically, one of these individuals assured that the anime had “many scenes of bloodshed and cruelty”, while another of those involved commented “feeling discomfort with the grotesque representations of people eaten, mutilation of limbs and other terrible acts of violence ”.
Surprisingly, the BPO stated that due to the popularity and success of the anime, the content it displayed Demon slayer was acceptable to the general Japanese public, so Fuji TV will continue to air it in primetime.
Editor’s note: It is certainly surprising that after the complaints, the BPO decide not to do anything about it. Don’t get me wrong, I think his answer was fine, I was just amazed at this especially with how strict and sensitive Japanese bodies can be with these kinds of issues.
