The task of the working group set up by the Ministry of Defense is, among other things, to assess the timetable for expanding the call-ups.
Ministry of Defence set up by the working group will start further investigating and planning the organization of invitations in the future for the entire age group, i.e. for both men and women. The ministry informs about it in its press release.
The task of the working group is to assess what kind of timetable the invitations could be extended and what kind of resources it would require. The working group will also find out how the reform would affect the responsibilities and activities of the authorities participating in the invitation process and how the legislation would need to be changed.
“There is broad support in Finland for calls for all age groups, both women and men,” says the chairman of the working group, head of the national defense unit Sami Nurmi from the Ministry of Defense in a press release.
“The work of our working group will provide grounds for political decision-making to develop conscription in the direction indicated by the parliamentary committee.”
Last year, a parliamentary committee suggested that the convocations be changed to three stages so that women would also participate in them. In the proposal, the entire age group would be subject to a health check-up and one call-up day where information about national defense would be given.
