Dead Yle: TV veteran Aarre Elo is dead

The TV presenter and Yle’s former program director was 87 years old at the time of his death.

Elo was 87 years old when he died. He was born in 1934.

Aarre “Arska” Elo, who has become the square face of the entire nation as a presenter, was a key factor in Finnish TV entertainment, especially in the 1960s and 1970s, when television made its way through Finland.

Elo was part of the VEK group at the time, influencing him in addition to him Jukka Virtanen mixed Matti Kuusla. The most famous of the group’s achievements is the entertainment program Snow citywhich was awarded internationally at the Montreux Entertainment Competition with the Golden Rose in 1965. The recognition has been considered the pinnacle of Finnish television.

VEK Group – the name came from the names of the trio – there was a lot of both ideas and sense of style, and a desire to make a quality television show. The performance included a certain tenderness, and it was not uncommon for Elo to brag about the hoax in front of the camera without rehearsing.

Helsinki-based Elo had started working as a cinema showman at the age of 15, and ended up doing television entertainment there after a short film career. He wrote and directed, and eventually he also became Program Director at Yle.

Elo also plotted the social pulse of his time, measuring the twinkling of humor in the corner of his eye Overtimeprogram, which spoke widely in Finland. The program was presented in 1967-69. Extension time has since been compared to the famous US entertainment program, Saturday Night Live. In addition to Elo, the program featured, among other things Lenita Airisto, Hannu Taanila and Maj-Brit Heljo.

Life told the public about his work in front of and behind the camera, but also about the adversities of his life. Elo’s wife died in a car accident in 1968, and Elo’s daughter also died in a car accident ten years later at the age of 24.

There were a total of four children alive from two different unions. About children Maria Jungner is now known as the announcer of Yle.

Elo was also founding the sober and sports club Zoom, which is well-known to the public.
