Dante, the dream of a free Italy: previews and streaming
At the end of Dante’s year, which celebrates the 700th anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet, ITsART and Rai Documentari bring a great international co-production to the homes of Italians and, subsequently, throughout the European Union. A passing of the baton in the name of Dante and of Culture: “Dante, the dream of a free Italy”, docu-drama written by Diego D’Innocenzo, Luca Marchetti and Mariangela Barbanente, is available from 13 December on ITsART and will be broadcast in a prime time signed by Rai Documentari on 27 December on Rai 2. Directed by Jesus Garces Lambert, “Dante, the dream of a free Italy” is a GA&A Productions / ARTLINE Films co-production with RAI Documentaries and ARTE GEIE, which transports the viewer into the atmosphere of the 14th century through the gaze of the Supreme Poet. A filmic epic, made even more engaging by the original music of John Sposito, which takes us into the rooms and nature of the most powerful characters of the 1300s: the Popes, the Kings and the Emperors who determined the destiny of Italy and of ‘Europe for the following decades.
The documentary trait of the interviews is intertwined with the powerful and evocative one of the fictional narrative, bringing the viewer face to face with the protagonists of the Middle Ages, so clearly described to posterity by Dante’s genius. To decode the poet’s lines, some of the most attentive Dante scholars in the world punctually contextualize the events narrated, offering a privileged point of view on one of the most important works in European history.
“Dante, the dream of a free Italy” pays homage to a cornerstone of literature which, with its vision of the sacred and the otherworldly, is rightfully the literary heritage of all humanity. His Comedy it is not only a clear judgment to the protagonists of history, but also a testimony of inestimable value on the first twenty years of the fourteenth century, when the aim of conquering supremacy would have justified every means.
Among the protagonists of this extraordinary documentary: Bernardo Casertano in the role of Dante, Gipeto to embody Boniface VIII, Giovanni Moschella in the role of Cardinal Boccassio, Francesco Petruzzelli is Filippo il Bello, Daniel De Rossi is Carlo di Valois, Camillo Marcello Ciorciaro plays Guglielmo di Nogaret, Alessandro Tirocchi and Corso Donati, while Mariagrazia Toccaceli plays Beatrice.
