A few hours after the official signing of Oliver Askew in Andretti Autosport for the next Formula E season, the Chinese team NIO 333 ‘replies’ to American competitors by announcing its new driver for 2021-2022: Dan Ticktum. The 22-year-old Brit will thus team up with compatriot Oliver Turvey with an all-English line-up, but above all he will definitively complete the line-up of the next world championship. The NIO, after the departure of the Anglo-Swedish Tom Blomqvist in IMSA, was in fact the last team to miss the call for the communication of its official drivers. In addition to this, the same team also chose Adam Carroll as test driver.
Born in London in 1999, Ticktum will make his absolute debut in the category reserved for single-seaters powered by an electric motor, and will be one of the three rookies together with Askew himself and Antonio Giovinazzi, in turn coming from Formula 1. After having been part of Red Bull Junior Team and, subsequently, of the Williams Driver Academy, the vice-champion of the European F3 2018 is currently engaged with the DAMS in Formula 2, where, two races from the end, he could still mathematically be crowned champion. To do so, however, he will have to recover the 49 points that separate him from Oscar Piastri, momentary leader of the standings.

Meanwhile, Ticktum commented on the first sensations as a new driver of the NIO 333, focusing in particular on the pre-season tests scheduled in Valencia before the start of the new championship with the E-Prix in Saudi Arabia: “It will be a great challenge – he has declared – because I didn’t have much time to prepare for the test scheduled for next week. Formula E is complicated, but it will be very exciting ”.
