Chihuahua, Chih.– Dams in the central-southern region of the state are beginning to capture water contributions, however recovery is not yet sufficient to exceed extraction levels.
This was reported by the leader of the Association of Irrigation Users of Chihuahua (AURECH), Salvador Alcántar, who said, however, that there is optimism on the part of farmers, due to the rains in the region and in the basins.
He mentioned that they expect a significant rainy season in the coming months, in order to plan a complete irrigation cycle for next year, since there have already been several years of restricted agricultural cycles.
“They are not recovering as we would like (the dams), some like La Boquilla are holding up despite the extraction levels. We hope that God sends us good rainfall so that we can recover the levels,” declared the federal deputy of the PAN.
In 2024, the agricultural cycle is 40 percent complete, many of the planned crops such as corn and watermelon have turned out as planned, however, there is concern about the infrastructure problems that could arise in the dams due to low storage levels.
He said that recently in La Boquilla they had a technical problem in one of the valves, a situation that Conagua addressed with extraordinary resources, however, he regretted that this year the federal budget does not include resources for the maintenance of the infrastructure of dams in the State.
