With the pandemic Covid has been registered in several European countries a drastic drop in the use of public transport. The contact with strangers, the proximity of the seats and in general the level of cleanliness have resulted in a situation in which users have lost confidence. Legitimate but actually irrational fears, especially in light of the countermeasures that can be taken.
The manufacturers of public transport vehicles have introduced some innovations that accompany individual protection measures (masks) and obviously vaccines. Daimler, with the Mercedes-Benz Citaro and Conecto brand buses, has introduced a new range of sizes able to contain the spread of viruses. In particular, it has also included in the variants without air conditioning of its buses EvoFresh ventilation systemswith integrated fans and air filters with anti-virus protection function.
The EvoFresh ventilation modules they are mounted under the Citaro and Conecto standard electric hatches; two on the standard vehicle and four on the articulated bus. The driver opens the electric roof hatches in the opposite direction to the direction of travel by pressing a button from his cabin. In this way the automatic fan is activated, fresh air enters from the outside and the recirculated air is sucked from the vehicle, filtered before being sent into the passenger compartment as filtered mixed air. Without activating the intake fan, the roof hatches serve as ventilation and promote rapid air exchange.
If the driver opens the roof hatches in the direction of travel, fresh air enters unhindered from the outside. Finally, when the roof hatch is closed, for example at low temperatures during the coldest times of the year, the modules effectively filter the recirculated air into the passenger compartment when the fans are running. The system independently adjusts the fan speed. The maximum air flow per module is 1350 cubic meters per hour. This provides a full air supply to the vehicle within a maximum of two minutes.
