CUPRA was born as the most extreme and fun division of the SEAT brand. After the arrival of Luca de Meo to the company, the decision was made to create a new brand based on said family. Although the first launches had a clear twinning with SEAT, today CUPRA flies on its own with exclusive cars. He CUPRA Terramar It is the last model of the family to see the light. A very attractive SUV with plug-in hybrid versions.
Although it is already considered its own brand, CUPRA continues to fall within the orbit of the Volkswagen Group, which means that it has access to the same technology and systems as the rest of the German conglomerate’s brands. That involves the use of the MQB Evo platform which has been redesigned to accommodate alternative mechanical systemsin addition to the usual and current thermal units.
The Earthsea It is launched on the market in the summer of 2024 and is considered to be the replacement for the Atecawhich continues to be sold in parallel. It is the largest model from the house, only surpassed by the CUPRA Tavascan. In a short time the Spanish brand has launched or updated several important models such as the CUPRA Born and the CUPRA León, which, like the new Terramar, introduces important improvements in its plug-in hybrid versions.

Prices of the CUPRA Terramar eHybrid (Version 2024)
The Terramar range is made up of several different mechanical versions, although in this case we focus exclusively on the plug-in hybrid models with the ZERO label. The range starts with the CUPRA Terramar VZ whose minimum sales price is 57,170 euroswithout offers and without the application of tax deductions or government aid to the purchase of electrified vehicles.
Above this is the CUPRA Terramar America’s CUP with a minimum value of 58,570 euroswithout discounts and without taking into account the MOVES III Plan. The main difference between them lies in the standard equipment, as well as in small decorative details distributed throughout the body and interior that make special mention of the brand’s participation in the 37th edition of the America’s Cup for sailing.
Engines and consumption
When choosing the mechanics of the Terramar there are three options available, a gasoline, a microhybrid and a plug-in hybrid. With respect to the latter, it is the most powerful model in the Terramar family. It uses a two-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that alone develops 177 horsepower. A front electric motor is joined to it to generate a joint maximum performance of 272 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque.
The electrical part is powered by a lithium-ion battery with 19.7 kWh net capacity that allows it to be approved for 100% electric autonomy of 120 kilometers (WLTP cycle), with an official mixed consumption of 0.5 liters per 100 kilometers traveled. Management is derived to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that sends all power to the front axle. For recharging, it has systems of up to 50 kW in direct current and up to 11 kW in alternating current.
Measurements of the CUPRA Terramar eHybrid (Version 2024)
As we have already said, the CUPRA Terramar is considered the successor or replacement of the CUPRA Ateca, although for a period of time both units share prominence within the brand. However, The Terramar is noticeably larger, although it is also possible to place it in the C-SUV segment. Its bodywork and dimensions allow it to be offered as a unique model for the family. Suitable for everyday use and for traveling long distances.
Externally it reaches 4.52 meters long, 1.86 meters wide and 1.58 meters high for a wheelbase of 2.68 meters. These are correct and almost standardized proportions within the category. Among its rivals we can find models such as the Opel Grandland, the Renault Scenic E-TECHthe Audi Q3 or the BMW iX1among others. To these measurements we can add an empty weight of 1,904 kilograms.
Inside
Although CUPRA was born as a spin-off from SEAT, its brand positioning is significantly superior. In addition to particular designs, inside we find better finishes and materials. Behind closed doors the presentation of the CUPRA Terramar is good. A pleasant space for a maximum of five passengers. The standard technological equipment is also significantly superior, gaining a certain distance from the rest of the general models.
In the front we find the best seats in the entire vehicle. Two comfortable, electronically adjustable seats that have most of the available technology at your fingertips. As is common in all new cars, the generous digitalization of the components stands out. Two screens draw attention, the instrumentation with a size of 10.2 inches and the main panel of the multimedia system with 12.9 inches diagonal. All functions are controlled through it.
In the rear, a second row of seats is installed with generous legroom and headroom. Three adults can go with some comfortalthough the central occupant is forced to travel with his legs open and in a slightly narrower and more uncomfortable seat. Rear passengers also have several comfort elements such as ventilation outlets, USB-C sockets, storage spaces and a comfortable central armrest, as well as side ISOFIX fixations.
Trunk of the CUPRA Terramar eHybrid (2024 Version)
It must be taken into account that we are dealing with a plug-in hybrid, not a pure electric vehicle, which means that we do not have two trunks. Only a large trunk in the rear with a minimum volume of 400 liters is available.. As the second row is longitudinally adjustable we can play with the available space, growing it to 490 liters of capacity. By folding the second row of seats in a 60:40 ratio, maximum volume is achieved. The plug-in hybrid model loses 108 liters of capacity compared to its thermal siblings by having to hide part of the electrical system under the trunk.
Opinions
The CUPRA Terramar is the latest and most attractive work of Spanish engineers. It is a compact SUV with very balanced measurements for all types of use. It stands out for its design, equipment, quality, habitability and driving. Its plug-in hybrid mechanics boast great electrical autonomy and low consumption once the battery life runs out.. The biggest drawbacks it presents are a trunk volume that seems somewhat small compared to that of other rivals and a price that is not particularly affordable. Despite this, it is one of the best options within the category.
