The Ministry of Culture made public this Friday the acquisition list of cultural goods in 2024 and, among the more than 250 purchases made, the name of Carmen LaForet stands out. The department directed by Ernest Urtasun formalized with Agustín Cerezalesson of the writer, the purchase of the manuscript of ‘Nothing’, the novel that won the Nadal Award of 1944, and the Documentary Fund, composed of complete texts, notebooks and notebooks. For the manuscript, culture has disbursed 125,000 euros and for the 180,000 euros file. In total, an investment of 305,000 euros destined for the National Library of Spain (BNE). The Ministry ensures that these two acquisitions serve to “increase the documentary funds of creative women in the BNE.”
The item for the acquisition of goods to enrich the collections of 35 public institutions throughout the territory amounts to total to 14,624,510 euros4.7 percent more than last year. According to the Ministry, it is a record figure. Of those 14.6 million, 4.7 come from the funds of 2 percent cultural to supply state collections. The picture ‘Virgen de la Merced with two Mercedarian friars’, from Zurbarán, is among the highest investments: it has cost 650,000 euros and its destination is the Prado Museum. The work ‘The procession of giants in Brussels on May 31, 1615’, by David Noveliers, also for the Prado, has cost 504,450 euros. In Arc, culture acquired 20 works worth 401,372 euros for the Reina Sofía Museum, which has also seen its collection with ‘La Marquesa de Alquibla’, from Angels Santosfor 200,000 euros.
The Ministry of Culture made more than 250 purchase operations last year to acquire paintings, sculptures, drawings, furniture, clothing, ceramics and other goods. There are 35 public cultural institutions that have received funds: the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain; 15 state museums managed by the Ministry, including the new National Photography Center; 8 state -owned museums with the transferred management; five state files and an autonomous management archive. Also the BNE, the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum, all of them autonomous agencies of the Ministry of Culture, together with National Heritage and the Galdiano Lázaro Museum Foundation.
