Mexico City.- President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum lashed out at the lack of coordination between the United States and Mexico to arrest drug lord Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.
Interviewed outside the transition house, the Morena member stressed that “the lack of coordination or collaboration in these types of cases can never be accepted.”
He questioned that, almost two months after the capture of “El Mayo”, the US authorities have not even explained “the release of one drug lord to arrest another.” -Regarding the President’s (AMLO) statements that hold the United States responsible for the violence in Sinaloa, what is your opinion?, he was asked.
“I think that the important thing in the relationship with the United States, with the agencies, is that there is coordination. In this case, everything indicates that there was no coordination,” he criticized.
“There was an action based on issues that have not been fully explained, such as the release of one drug lord to arrest another.” “So, I think that what can never be accepted is that there is no coordination and collaboration,” added Sheinbaum. President López Obrador accused the US Government of being jointly responsible for the violence in Sinaloa for negotiating the arrest in its territory of Joaquín Guzmán López, son of “El Chapo,” and “El Mayo,” without informing Mexico. In the morning press conference, the President insisted that the Joe Biden Administration owes Mexico an explanation about the scope of its agreements with drug traffickers. “We are of course interested in building peace, that there is no violence, we are also interested in not having fentanyl reach the United States,” added Sheinbaum. “But the United States has to do the same in its country. We have to do the same in our country and coordinate, collaborate, but there should not be no collaboration.” On another topic, the next President said that she will be “very pleased” to have the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, visit her to attend the inauguration on October 1. “She is going to come and I am also very grateful that she is the one who is coming, I will be very happy to greet her,” said Sheinbaum.
