Chihuahua, Chih.- The first commercial flight is expected to land at the Barrancas del Cobre Airport in September, covering the Los Cabos-Creel route and operated by the Sonoran company Servicios Aéreos Guerreros, announced Tourism Secretary Edibray Gómez Gallegos.
The official said that the route will be served by planes with a capacity of 17 passengers, specially designed for adventure and cultural tourism in the area.
Initially, the flight will have three frequencies per week, which will be increased or reduced depending on occupancy.
He noted that work is also being done on the operation of flights from the sea to the mountains with routes from Los Mochis, Mazatlán, San Carlos and Hermosillo to Creel.
He added that talks are ongoing with an Iberian company that will fly from Madrid to Los Cabos, and they are seeking to create synergy with another airline so that tourists can fly from Los Cabos to Creel.
The Barrancas del Cobre Airport in Creel formally began operations on January 31, 20 years after the start of this project in the mountainous area of the state.
Gómez Gallegos announced that Chihuahua will host the Mont Blanc Ultra Marathon next year, which brings together the world of racing and takes place annually in the Alps, crossing France, Italy and Switzerland and which will be held in the country for the first time.
It is estimated that between 10 and 15 thousand international runners will participate, as well as local ones.
In 2025, he added, Chihuahua will host the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, a prestigious wine and spirits competition. More than 100 wine tasters will evaluate more than 10,000 wine labels internationally.
