In Austria we are moving towards a lockdown for unvaccinated people. This is what emerged from a videoconference meeting held by the government late yesterday evening, which set the limit of intensive care places occupied (equal to 600 beds) at 30%, beyond which those who are not vaccinated will have to stay at home. “We are about to run into the pandemic of those who are not protected,” Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg warned, clarifying that there will be no lockdown for those who are vaccinated and for those who have recovered from Covid. Schallenberg expressed the hope that this possibility would send a signal to the too “hesitant and laggard”.
At the moment in Austria the number of beds occupied in intensive care is 220. If it were to reach 600, it would lead to phase 5 of the government plan, which provides for massive restrictions on movement for the unvaccinated. Health Minister Wolfgang Mueckstein said we are currently in phase 1, so “we are talking about the future”.
