Coronavirus Customs now controls the borders in Lapland, the Border Guard asked for official assistance

On Thursday, the government decided to continue the restrictions on entry in much the same way as before. At the end of December, Customs received a request for official assistance from the Border Guard.

Customs temporarily carry out border control against Norway. At the end of December, Customs said that it had received a request for official assistance from the Border Guard on Thursday.

The border between Norway and Finland is being monitored, as internal border controls between Finland and all Schengen countries have been reinstated due to the coronary virus situation. Certificates are required for those arriving in Finland from abroad, which are intended to guarantee the health safety of travel.

Customs checks the conditions for the entry of newcomers at Kilpisjärvi, Kivilompolo, Karigasniemi and Utsjoki border crossings. Due to staff shortages, inspectors arrived from other areas.

“We already have a shortage of customs inspectors here in the north. Fortunately, the staff of Customs has seized the opportunity to rotate and we have obtained loans from customs inspectors from other locations. In this way, we were now able to meet this temporary task, ”says the acting. customs chief Kari Hannu in the bulletin.

The arrangement will continue as long as the temporary internal border control continues.

Government decided on Thursday to continue the restrictions on entry largely the same as before until the end of January.

The policy is that those arriving in Finland are required to have a certificate for a full series of vaccinations or a coronary disease that has been contracted less than six months ago, as well as a certificate for a negative corona test less than 48 hours old.

There are a few exceptions to the requirements. They do not apply to children and young people born after 2006, and Finns and those living permanently in Finland are not required to take a negative test result. The requirements for residents of border communities are also slightly different.

In the future, it will also be possible to enter Finland with a medical certificate stating that coronary vaccination cannot be taken for medical reasons. In this case, the tourist must also have a certificate of a negative test result less than two days old.
