Coronavirus Austria closed to all from Monday and forced vaccination in February

However, according to Schallenberg, at least those who cannot take the vaccine for health reasons are not obliged.

A ten-day confinement facility will also begin in the country on Monday, which will also apply to those vaccinated. The lockout can be extended for an additional ten days in addition to the original ten days.

“Despite months of persuasion, we haven’t been able to convince enough people to take the vaccines,” Schallenberg said.

Terrestrial vaccination coverage has dragged on by about 65 per cent and the authorities have called the low coverage “shameful”.

At a news conference, Schallenberg said people who refuse to take the vaccine are “attacking the health care system”.

The daily reported cases of infection in Austria, with a population of about nine million, have been around 12,000 in October-November. The country’s infection record was reported on Thursday, with more than 15,000 confirmed cases recorded.

Closed space in connection with the return, there is also a mask obligation that FFP2 masks should be used indoors. People are allowed to leave their homes during the barricade, among other things, to buy the things they need in their daily lives, such as food.

Schools will remain open during the closed area, but parents have been asked to keep children at home whenever possible. The telework recommendation will also take effect.

In the past, a so-called lockout for unvaccinated people was placed in the country, meaning that the restrictions only applied to unvaccinated people.

Coronavirus situations have deteriorated in several other European countries. In Hungary, a neighboring country to Austria, for example, an interior mask obligation will take effect from Saturday.
