Austria relies on new corona rules and a 3G model in the workplace. According to medical president Klaus Reinhardt, that would also be helpful in Germany.
Vienna – Austria tightened its corona rules. From November 1st, the 3G rule will apply in the workplace. In other words: In the future, employees will have to prove that they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested. The Alpine republic is following the example of Italy, where some employees need the so-called “green pass”.
Corona in Austria: 3G rule at work – high penalties threaten
A 3G certificate is required wherever physical contact with others cannot be ruled out, such as in the office. “We’re not talking about the home office, night watchman or truck driver,” said Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens). Working from home should be promoted as far as possible.
Austria had already decided to make 3G mandatory a few weeks ago. There is still a transition period until November 14th. Employees without a 3G certificate would have to wear an FFP2 mask by then. Otherwise there is no mask requirement for 3G in many areas. In order to monitor compliance with the regulation, the government around new Chancellor and Sebastian Kurz successor Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) relies on the health authorities. There should be random samples. If there is no 3G evidence, there is a risk of fines of 500 euros for employees and 3600 euros for employers.
Corona in Austria: incidence of 360 – Salzburg breaks 500 mark
Health Minister Mückstein spoke of another protective mechanism against the corona virus. “It cannot be that you have to expose yourself to the risk of a corona infection at work,” he said. Because of the current corona situation, you have to act.
Recently, the number of cases in Germany’s neighboring country rose rapidly. The 6,102 new cases registered on Saturday (October 30th) represent the highest value since the beginning of the year. As of Monday (November 1), 4,523 new infections and 12 deaths were reported. In less than two weeks, the seven-day incidence doubled to more than 360. The situation in the an is particularly tense Bavaria bordering federal states of Salzburg and Upper Austria. The incidence there is 540.6 and 544.3 respectively (source: AGES, as of October 31).
Corona: “3G at work could be helpful in Germany”
By the way, in Germany there is no compulsory test in the workplace – unlike in class, where schoolchildren have to be tested twice a week. The regulations may vary slightly depending on the federal state. Medical President Klaus Reinhardt recommends a rethink in this context. In view of the increasing number of infections (incidence on November 1: 154.8) Reinhardt brought a mixture of 2G and 3G into play.
That would mean that in certain places either only vaccinated and convalescent people (2G) or those who have been tested (3G) have access. “In this respect, I think it is appropriate – if the numbers continue to rise – if we were to say that the 2G rule applies to larger parts of life together – for example in museums or in restaurants. And if the 3G rule were, for example, in the workplace, as the Italians have been doing for a long time and the Austrians too, then I think that could also be helpful, “said the President of the German Medical Association on Monday in the ZDF morning magazine.
Incidentally, in Austria around 63 percent of people are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, in Germany it is around 67 percent. The Austrian government is planning further drastic measures in the event of the corona situation worsening. In extreme cases, this also includes a lockdown exclusively for unvaccinated people. (as)
