Residents of the house have complained about the noise and insecurity when the apartments have only been used for days.

The owner of the apartments has leased 27 square meters of uniformly furnished apartments for short-term use. It has been possible to rent another apartment for a minimum of 24 hours.

One studio can be rented for just under 100 euros a night – the price has varied from time to time. Furnished studios have also been rented for a longer period.

Helsinki the Urban Environment Board threatens the homeowner with a penalty payment if the operation does not cease.

The penalty payment is 4,000 euros and for every month when the order is not complied with an additional 1,000 euros. The owner of the apartment must pay the city EUR 1,300 for the control measures carried out by the city.

The apartments in the house on Valhallantie have been marketed under the name Eskolampi aparthotel on booking.com and trivago.fi, which offer accommodation.

At least in November 2021, the rent was reported to include wifi, towels and linens, according to city data. In addition, breakfast is available separately for the rental apartment at an additional cost of EUR 8 per person.

Secret hotel it became clear after the residents complained about the matter to the city building inspectorate.

There are only nine residential apartments in the whole house and the residents of the house have complained about the noise coming from the apartments rented for accommodation. Changing occupants and handing over the key to a nearby company have caused a sense of insecurity.

Other residents are disturbed by the movement of unknown people on the condominium’s premises. Other residents have also been disturbed by moving around in the basement or garage at night and in the stairwell.

The chairman of the board of the housing association has had to remove unknown persons from the residents’ common gym.

The housing company has given the shareholder a written warning to stop the operation.

The owner of the apartment has announced that the apartments are currently being rented for four to five months. He has also removed short-term rental advertisements from accommodation sites in late fall.

According to him, the tenants of the apartment have not been disturbed. He also held that the building inspectorate did not have the power to determine the length of the lease.

Land Use and Building Act according to which a substantial change in the use of a part of a building, for example from housing to accommodation, requires a building permit.

Based on the duration of the leases, it can be considered that the purpose has changed from housing to accommodation.

If the lease lasts for more than three months, it is no longer considered an accommodation activity, according to the board.
