Compromís asks the European PP leader to reconsider the celebration of Congress in Valencia

Compromís questions that the European Popular Party will finally celebrate its Congress in Valencia six months after the DANA and that the landing of conservative leaders occurs before the European leadership has visited the affected areas. In a letter sent to the president of the organization, Manfred Weber, the Eurodiputa Vicent Marzá considers that image “unfortunate and offers to collaborate so that European institutions can visit the area and talk to the victims, a proposal that occurs only a few days after the popular vetoed, along with the ultra -right, the appearance of an association in the Eurochamber.

“The image of leaders of the European Popular Party gathering in Valencia to celebrate their conclave while thousands of families still try to rebuild their lives is not only unfortunate, but also calls into question the sense of political responsibility in times of crisis,” says Marzá in the letter in which she reproaches that this is the first visit of the European leaders to the area in which at least 228 people died and that this ” Congress of his party and not with the sole purpose of serving the victims of the catastrophe. ”

“I am sure that you and your European colleagues know the difficult situation that my country is going through. Therefore, I humbly tell you that València does not currently need a Congress of the Popular Party and urges you to reconsider the relevance of celebrating your congress in Valencia at the moment,” he says in the letter in which he reminds him “the late and insufficient response offered by the Consell de Carlos Mazón happened and his lack of empathy for the victims “as well as” the passivity “by Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

From the European Popular Party they transferred to Genoa after the tragedy the doubts about the suitability of the Congress celebration in Valencia, among other things for the fear of protests with the discomfort in the response, as happened after the first visit of Pedro Sánchez and the Kings. But Feijóo decided to move forward with the plan disregarding his colleagues. As the Mazón situation has become more delicate, the Galician opened to change the location under the pretext that Parliament had refused to change the full calendar and that, therefore, would coincide with votes and the control session to the government. However, the popular knew the calendar at least on January 16, when they already knew the dates of their conclave in Valencia and were approved at the Board of Spokespersons on February 4. It was later when they asked for a modification that was not accepted.

In the last two times he has been in Brussels, Feijóo has complained about that decision. “I cannot attend, neither I nor deputies nor senators,” he said Thursday. He also approved that Mazón goes as a host to an appointment in which the entire European leadership will be, including the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, which unlike other catastrophes has not come to the affected area. What says, however, Marzá in his letter is that he knows that the president of the Eurocamara, Roberta Metsola, “did everything possible” to go even though “without success.”

“I suggest that before going to a partisan event, prioritize the truly important: listen to those who have suffered the consequences of the Dana, know firsthand the magnitude of the disaster and become aware of the institutional disappointment that has aggravated the suffering of the Valencian citizenship,” Zanja Zanja: “The European Union has managed to be up to the height in times of tragedy. Excuses to put partisan interests to the duty of assistance, justice, truth and repair that victims deserve.
