The party’s spokesman in the Senate wants to know the measures that the National Executive is going to adopt to demand “current legality”
The spokesman for Compromís in the Senate, Carles Mulet, presented a written question to the Government on May 25 after the Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia published on May 18 the Resolution of the Governing Council on the name Airport of the Region of Murcia. Determine the official name of the airport in the Region of Murcia as ‘International Airport of the Region of Murcia-Juan de la Cierva’.
Mulet asked in writing that, given that this attempt to name the airport with a Francoist name could not be carried out last year, due to article 15 of the Historical Memory Law, why now «the Government of the Region of Murcia it ignores the legislation and tries to consummate it».
In this sense, the spokesman for Compromís asked the National Executive “what measures is the Government going to adopt to demand that the Murcian regional government comply with current legislation?” and if “Is Aena going to withdraw its agreements with the Region of Murcia for this offense against the victims of Francoism?”
The Government, according to Mulet, responded in writing on Friday succinctly. “In relation to the matter in question, it is noted that the matter is currently in court,” states the Government in its reply. On the other hand, it is indicated that the contract signed between Aena Sociedad Concessionaria del Aeropuerto Internacional de la Región de Murcia SME, SA and the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, is in force. This contract was formalized on February 24, 2018 and has a concession term of 25 years.
For Mulet, this type of response demonstrates once again that the 2007 Historical Memory Law “is completely useless” and that it has “been systematically violated and there is no sanction for non-compliance, since it does not have any sanctioning regime or protocols ».
«The Government has mechanisms such as rescinding Aena’s contract with this airport for changing the name to an illegal one, and they absolutely pass, and do not even show distance with this insulting change of name, leaving everything to their judicial fate, a fate in which neither The Government has participated, becoming accomplices by omission, ”says Mulet.
