“Come and get us” 4 mountaineers missing on Mont Blanc: two are Italian

Four climbers, two Italians and two South Koreans, have been missing on Mont Blanc since Saturday 7 September due to bad weather. They risk freezing to death

Due to the violent wave of bad weather which struck yesterday, Sunday 8 September, four climbers are missing on Mont Blanc, two Italians and two South Koreans.

The Italians, a man and a woman of about 40 years old, were located for the last time at an altitude of 4600 meters while the position of the other two climbers is unknown.

The two climbers blocked due to bad weather risk death by frostbite

Due to fog and adverse weather conditions, the two climbers had alerted the rescue services after getting stuck during the descent from the summit.

An urgent request for help causes high risk of frostbite which they were going to meet: “Come and get us, we can’t see anything. We risk freezing to death“The two had also fallen into a crevasse, but managed to get out.

Rescuers, who initially tried to reach them on foot, will resume their search this morning, which was interrupted yesterday due to bad weather.

71-year-old mountaineer dies in Belluno

Also on Saturday 7 September, a 71 year old mountaineer, Loris DeBarbadied after falling more than 50 metres from a rock face located at 2300 metres above sea level.

The victim, who left in the afternoon with the intention of capturing the sunset, probably slipped while he was on the top of one of the Camp Towersin the Belluno area.

Yellow and orange weather alert expected for Monday 9 September

The wave of bad weather will continue to rage today, Monday 9 September. The Department of Civil Protection has in fact issued the activation of theOrange alert for eight regions (Friuli Venezia Giulia, Tuscany and in sectors of Veneto, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Campania and Molise) and of that yellow in 17 regions.

Since yesterday, a strong storm front has affected the entire Northern Italy and the Tuscanyon which over 2000 lightning bolts fell. A water bomb also hit the Liguria and in particular on Sanremocausing flooding of underpasses, streets and lower-level houses.
