The escape attempt took place in the city of Tulua in eastern Colombia in the Valle del Cauca department.
Colombian president Ivan Duque expressed his condolences on Twitter by offering solidarity to the relatives of the victims.
“We are sad about what happened in Tuluan. I have provided instructions for resolving this situation. My solidarity is with the relatives of the victims, ”says Duque.
Tragic escape attempts are not exceptional in Latin America. In Ecuador, nearly 400 prisoners have been killed as a result of six demonstrations since 2021.
