Cobre San Rafael has announced that it already has 79% of the land necessary for its sustainable copper production project, advancing in the administrative procedures for the launch of its initiative in the Touro-O Pino mine. Through purchase agreements with local property ownersthe company has taken over these lands. In total, the project will occupy an area of about 812 hectares, of which 600 are historic mining lands.
Recently Cobre San Rafael published the list of the current ownership of the land on which the project will be developed and some of its infrastructure. The company confirms that “this legal advertising requirement aims to inform the owners of the properties and, in no case, does it imply the expropriation of the indicated plots,” the company has stressed.
It should be noted that “the good progress of the land acquisition process” is the result of more than seven years of dialogue and negotiations with neighbors and owners. During this period, the company carried out more than 200 informational meetings in the region, in order to guarantee a respectful and consensual integration of the project in the community,” he highlighted.
The agreements reached include options to purchase or rent the land. In the case of the commitment of salethe owners are receiving 10% of the valuation of their land at the time of signing, an amount that they will not have to return if the project is not developed, the firm added.
For its part, with the option of rent 2.5% per year of the land valuation is offered until the necessary permits are obtained, at which time it will be increased to 10% per year.
In addition, the majority of the owners of the land pending acquisition show their willingness to sign agreements once the necessary permits for the development of the project are obtained, currently reaching 79% of the totalCobre San Rafael has claimed.

The company has insisted that the quality and potential of the deposit are guaranteed thanks to the more than 100 kilometers of exploration drilling carried outwhich confirm both the size and chemical composition of the mineral. In that sense, the lands already compromised are linked, for the most part, to the facilities of the historic mine, previously affected by mining footprints, in addition to eucalyptus trees and meadows.
