Traditionally, there are two methods for producing graphene. The first uses adhesive tape to peel layers off a piece of graphite, resulting in thin sheets suitable for becoming graphene. However, the quality of the sheets obtained by this process was often unreliable due to the presence of oxygen.
Graphene: eliminate oxygen
A recent study showed that eliminate almost all oxygen from the growth process is crucial to obtain high-quality graphene. “We have shown that eliminating nearly all oxygen from the growth process is key to achieving reproducible high-quality CVD graphene synthesis,” said James Hone, lead author of the study and a researcher at Columbia University. This discovery made it possible to significantly improve production, making it faster and more reliable.
