PDT candidate for the presidency says that the distribution of R$ 88 billion from the state-owned company to shareholders is a “crime”
The presidential candidate Ciro Gomes (PDT) said that the distribution of BRL 88 billion in profits and dividends from Petrobras from April to June 2022 is a “crime”. The pedestrian made the statement this Saturday (20.Aug.2022), during a campaign in Campo Grande, west of Rio de Janeiro.
For Ciro, the state and the federal government are “extorting” the population. “Petrobras, the Brazilian government is extorting, is an unarmed robbery. Have no doubt. Want to see the number? from january to march [de 2022]Petrobras distributed BRL 48 billion in profits and dividends without paying a cent of tax to anyone”, said the candidate.
“But in the following quarter, April to June, Petrobras, I laugh not to cry, distributed R$ 88 billion in profits and dividends. This is a crime, which was taken from the pocket of the truck driver, the taxi driver, the app driver and the housewife who can’t pay for the cooking gas”, declared.
Petrobras is the 2nd oil company that paid the most dividends to its shareholders in the 1st half of 2022. The state-owned company distributed US$ 12.4 billion, behind only Saudi Aramco. It surpassed the major oil companies ExxonMobil, Chevron, TotalEnergies, Shell, BP and Equinor. Read the infographic below:

The pedestrian said that he intends to resume the national industry through “industrial complexes” already studied, without specifying the project. Ciro cited the fall in the sector’s share of the Brazilian GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
Also present at the event were the national president of the PDT, Carlos Lupiand the party’s candidate for governor of Rio, Rodrigo Neves.
