What is a circus?
For the RAE, a circus represents a “building or enclosure covered by a tent, with stands for spectators, which has one or more tracks in the middle where jugglers, clowns, tightrope walkers, trained animals, etc.”
However, according to JM Sadurní for National Geographic, this word has gone beyond its usual meaning. “The circus has traditionally been much more than enjoying an attractive show and delighting in its varied numbers. Currently it is an open door to a world of fantasy, a magical path to entertainment for the whole family, where the impossible becomes reality”, reads the article “The Origin of the Circus, the greatest show in the world (2020) ”.
