CinemaWare announced the removal from the GOG digital store of some of its historic titles: Defender of the Crown, Rocket Ranger (Emulated Amiga Edition), Wings (Emulated Amiga Edition), and Wings! Remastered Edition. The four games have no longer been available since yesterday January 19th.
A few days earlier they had also been removed from Steam, where the collection was also deleted Cinemaware Anthologywhich collected thirteen of the company's games, including Defender of the Crown and Rocket Ranger.
Hypothesis
It's unclear why Cinemaware games are disappearing from digital shelves. The company, with all its intellectual properties, was acquired in 2016 by Starbreeze, which has so far exploited it very little.
Unfortunately, currently the only way to play most Cinemaware titles is via emulators or passing through the second-hand market. The hope is that they will soon be available again in some way.
Cinemaware is a company born in the era of 8-16 bit systems, famous for being among the first to experiment with a strongly cinematic approach to its games.
