Ciudad Juárez— For the first time in its history, this year’s edition of the Chupacabras race will feature a prize pool of 400 thousand pesos.
The 28th edition of the 100-kilometer mountain bike race will take place on October 12, starting from the Plaza de la Mexicanidad to the Sierra de Juárez and ending back at the plaza.
There will be a 100-kilometer category, a 50-kilometer category, the Chupacabritas route, and the “diaper” category for children up to four years old, with a special circuit and Pedal Power Challenge facilities in the plaza. There will also be a physical activation area for children and 500 volunteers will participate, said Susana Laredo, director of operations for the Chupacabras Cycling Race.
Registration on the day of the race is 2 thousand pesos, while the Chupacabritas category is free, and children will also have access to a recreational kit, said Verónica Jiménez, director of the Gazpro Foundation.
In addition, this year 70 percent of the route will be run on a track in the Sierra de Juárez, both ways.
