According to a new report by Niko Partner the console market in China is growing.
The market research firm revealed some findings, indicating that total sales of console hardware and software will be $ 2.16 billion, an increase of nearly 17% over the previous year.
While Niko doesn’t expect the Chinese console market to maintain this growth rate, he expects it to continue growing, reaching $ 2.53 billion in 2026.
These numbers include both official hardware and software sales and gray market sales of imported versions, which are popular due to the relative scarcity of officially available titles in the country. Niko believes that 80% of the console market revenue in China comes from gray market sales, hence from unofficial channels.
“Console gamers and console game revenue growth rates are double-digit in mainland China“, he has declared Lisa Hansonfounder and president of Niko.
“The growth comes not only from higher player spending levels, but also from a niche group of players looking for high-quality, global-reach titles beyond what is found in China. Gamers may have different preferences in terms of gameplay and graphics, but everyone wants high-quality games and consoles have been offering them for many years.“.
Niko stated that Switch is currently the market leader console in China, but added that PS5 and Xbox Series X / S have been “key growth factors” last year.
