The athlete Chema Martínez has confirmed his participation in the Jimbee Volcano Ultramarathon, the long-distance mountain race that takes place in Cartagena from September 30 to October 2, as LA TRUTH learned. The athlete from Madrid, focused on his 50 years in long distance, plans to participate in the 10-kilometre test before going to another appointment in Portugal.
Martínez has been focused on the long distance for years after a proven career as a professional athlete. He was an Olympian at the Athens Games in 2004, with a ninth place; and in Beijing 2008. The long-distance runner confirmed in the last hours his participation in the Cartagena test, with distances of 112, 66, 34 and 10 kilometers. Martinez will run the latter.
The Madrid long-distance runner has a collaboration contract with the Cartagena company Jimbo Fresh, the same one that supports the futsal team. The agreement expires in December and is in the process of being renewed, sources close to this newspaper pointed out. Martínez dresses in shorts on October 2, although the idea is that a couple of days before he participates in social events in Cartagena and meets the mayor Noelia Arroyo.
The athlete won last year in the queen event held in Iceland, completing 235 kilometers in five days

The 1,300 bib numbers for the Jimbee Volcano Ultramarathon have been sold out for more than a month. The objective is that this test begins to consolidate itself in the national calendar and acquire fame, like the Cartagena Route of the Fortresses and the classic Cartagena Trail. The presence of the professional Zaid Ait Malek in the queen distance of 112 kilometers is also guaranteed.
There are 280 numbers sold out for the queen event. It is pure survival, since it has a distance of 112 kilometers starting at the Cabo de Palos lighthouse and finishing at the Palacio de Deportes. Along the way, the runners will cross beaches, cliffs, pine forests, coastal batteries and mining deposits, among other charms of the municipality. There is a positive drop of 2,750 meters and a maximum elevation of 543. The maximum time to complete the route, which begins on September 30 at 7:00 p.m., is 27 hours.
