A new era of creativity (so to speak) is opening up for users of ChatGPT: OpenAI has announced that the image generation functionality, previously reserved for Plus plan subscribers, will now be available to everyone, including those using the free version of the chatbot.
ChatGPT leverages the power of FROM-E 3another AI model developed by OpenAI, to create images from simple text descriptions. This feature, already appreciated by Plus subscribers, is now accessible to a much wider audience. However, there is a small, big compromise for those who use ChatGPT for free: the number of images that can be generated each day is limited to two. After this limit, ChatGPT will invite users to upgrade to the Plus plan or wait until the next day.
ChatGPT can also be used to improve the initial prompt, which is the textual description that guides the image generation by DALL-E 3. In this way, even less experienced users will be able to obtain surprising results.
An example? The image used as the cover for this article, generated on ChatGPT starting from a text prompt.
Opening up the image generation feature to all ChatGPT users is an important step towards democratizing access to creative AI. This will allow an increasingly wider audience to experience the potential of AI and express their creativity in new and engaging ways, as well as providing OpenAI with more data to train its AIs, we add.
The daily limit for free users may prompt some to consider subscribing to ChatGPT Plus, which offers unlimited access to image generation and other advanced features. So it’s a nice bonus for the company, which has since announced that GPT-4o is “medium risk” while criticism about its security continues.
