Covid-19 has caused chaos in Australia’s football competitions with six matches in the First Division and Domestic Cup being postponed on Wednesday.
The First Division League said in a statement that Melbourne City’s match against Brisbane Roar on December 27 has been postponed, along with the two matches of Perth Glory against Sydney F. C and MacArthur F. C in the first week of January.
The Perth Glory matches were postponed, after club staff spent the past week in quarantine in Brisbane, while the Melbourne City Premier League match could not be played on time after six players were infected with Covid-19.
City said in a statement: “All of the affected players have been fully vaccinated and are all in good health.”
City’s Australian Cup match against Wellington Phoenix was also postponed due to the outbreak of Covid-19, while the Gold Coast Knights match against Melbourne Victory was postponed due to contact with an infected person.
Organizers have also had to postpone the Brisbane Roar’s match against Sydney in the Cup due to a case of the virus.
