The organization asks the Ministry of Consumer Affairs for a specific regulation that defines the basic services
With the celebration of open-air music festivals on weekends and weekends throughout Spain, the Organization of Consumers and Users has spoken about “all kinds of abuses” that are being committed this summer. Anyone who has attended any of these events may have had a complaint similar to the ones reported by the OCU and may feel identified with their complaints.
As they explain, one of the most obvious problems are the “substantial changes in the programming and lineup of artists scheduled for the festival.” In the event that the notice has not been given sufficiently in advance, users could request reimbursement of the ticket in addition to a claim for damages. They also complain about the “abusive prices” for resale, which can multiply the official prices by three or four.
Already inside the enclosure, the OCU has noticed the “insufficient free drinking water points”, as required by the new Law on Waste and Contaminated Soil for a Circular Economy. This scarce supply can lead to hydration problems and the risk of agglomerations in the bars. In this sense, they also consider charging for reusable cups “without the possibility of subsequently recovering the additional amount paid for them” an abuse.
Another of the complaints refers to the impossibility of introducing food, “when the Directorate of Consumption itself admits it if they are being sold inside the premises,” they explain. They also argue it in the main activity of the festival, which is not food, but artistic and musical. Finally, despite the fact that they offer the reimbursement of the money loaded on the bracelets or payment ‘apps’ within the festival, they do so with “abusive commissions”. It is a payment method contrary to consumer regulations, which “forces businessmen to always accept cash as a means of payment.”
For all this, the OCU asks the Ministry of Consumer Affairs for a specific regulation that urgently defines the basic services of open-air music festivals and establishes compensation in case of bad practices. In the meantime, encourage users to request claim forms; if the establishment does not have it, you must call the local police so that they appear.
