Oscar Villasante and José Orantos are at the head of the Vocento Group in the Basque Country and Extremadura
Oscar Villasante (Bilbao, 1962) has been appointed by the Board of Directors of‘The mail‘New newspaper director replacing José Miguel Santamaría (Vitoria, 1959), which leaves the position he has held in the last nine years and retires after more than 43 years linked to this head and ‘El Diario Montañés’, also of the group Vocento.
Villasante has a degree in Information Sciences from the University of the Basque Country. He began his professional career in ‘El Correo’ in 1987 as editor of the local section, and then being appointed delegate of the Costa Edition. Then went on to hold the same position in the Guipúzcoa editionsince he occupied for three years until he returned to the writing of Bilbao to launch the first free and regional free newspapers. In 1992 he was appointed closing head and then passed to local and citizens until in 2007 he was appointed attached to the Directorate and responsible for culture and society, a work he performs until 2016, when Santamaría assumes the address of ‘El Correo’ and appoints him deputy director.
For its part, José Orantos (Plasencia, 1969) has been appointed director of ‘Today’ from Extremadura to replace Domínguez Marwhich is incorporated into the direction of Colpisa. Bachelor of Information Sciences at the Pontifical University of Salamanca, he joined ‘today’ in 1993. During his extensive career in the newspaper he has exercised various roles related to the organization of writing, informative supervision and digital commitment. He was the first head of the digital edition of the newspaper, Chief of Area of Extremadura and Badajoz and editing head, since he has combined with his responsibility in front of today.es.
